- What should we drink?
Imagine arriving in a new country and being presented with a wine list of wines you've never tasted. What do you do? I love using Vivino to track our wine consumption, mainly because it helps us choose wines as we travel worldwide. Not only does it keep a record of our favourites, more importantly, but it also helps us ensure we select wines in a new region that suit our taste palette. As they say, life is too short to drink bad wine.
- Snack bar Rio - Rovinj
Snack Bar Rio - One Visit This restaurant is the sister restaurant to La Puntulina and Giannino Restaurant. We visited this restaurant just as a storm came through, making it even more special. There is something magical about watching a storm while safely tucked away inside dining. The food is better than La Puntulina's (this is due more to the small number of tables that need to be covered), and we're sorry we didn't try this restaurant earlier in our stay. The lamb was the best I've had in Croatia, and the pasta was freshly made, and for once, we both had desserts! It's a fabulous wine list, and you must try the exclusive sparkling 'Summer Brut'. Service is impeccable and full of personality. Excellent quality food. This restaurant gets the same stunning sunsets. It is just slightly back from the sea, overlooking the harbour. Outside dining is available on the water.
- San Tommaso Vinoteka Enoteca - Rovinj
San Tommaso Vinoteka Enoteca - One Visit This bar has excellent sunset views and a cool interior. Just a bit too expensive, and to be honest, the service didn't match the pricing. The spirit selection is minimal. It won't become one of our regular posts; check out our bars of Rovinj post instead.
- La Concha - Rovinj
La Concha Rovinj - One Visit Yes, a Mexican restaurant in Rovinj. The restaurant is tucked away in a laneway just off the inner harbour. They usually have live music, and it's great to experience Mexican food and margaritas with friends. Expect a short delay in your food, as all meals are freshly cooked to order. But it's worth the wait. The service was impeccable, and this restaurant is a great place to go for a fun night out in Rovinj.
- Veli Jože - Rovinj
Veli Jože - One Visit One of the oldest restaurants in Rovinj serving simple traditional food. The decor inside has not changed since it opened, make sure you sit inside and check out the living museum. Great for large groups and all seafood lovers. It is located in the heart of the Old Town.
- Airbnb - Rovinj
Rovinj Carera - Seven Nights This newly renovated Airbnb is simply perfect. From a fully-equipped kitchen to the beautiful views of the quaint Rovinj laneways. This place has a dishwasher (yes!), a washing machine, a large shower, and high-speed WIFI. It is centrally located and bathed in sunlight all day. It's just off the main street in a beautiful, quiet lane but still close to all the main facilities in Old Town Rovinj. Our hosts have been very accommodating and very easy to communicate with. I recommend this stunning apartment for your stay in Rovinj, and you will not be disappointed.
- Carera 5 - Rovinj
Carera 5 It's a lovely spot that catches the late afternoon ocean breeze and serves okay cocktails, but it's more of a night venue. We only went once, so this might not have been their best day.
- Hotel Adriatic - Rovinj
Hotel Adriatic - Three visits We usually avoid Hotels for breakfast; however, the Hotel Adriatic is very different. However, Hotel Adriatic is a complete game-changer. Picture this - an à la carte breakfast served until midday, giving you a genuinely civilized start to your day. They boast fantastic coffee, air conditioning, and stunning Rovinj views. It's also ideal for a leisurely afternoon drink, a delightful light lunch, and top-notch people-watching.
- Giannino Restaurant - Rovinj
Giannino Restaurant A beautiful Italian seafood restaurant located in one of the old laneways in Rovinj. You can select some of the best whole fresh fish in Rovinj. The fish is cooked to perfection and then fileted at the table by one of the waiters. We enjoyed a delightful steak dish, which melted in your mouth. An extensive wine list that covers Croatia, Austria and some other hidden gems. A glass each of the Summer Brut 2020 was a great start to the evening, exclusive to Giannino. We also enjoyed a lovely bottle of Pinot from one of our favourite Croatian wineries, Tomac. It is a perfect restaurant for dating or spending time with friends. The service was impressive, warm, and friendly. Be sure to visit La Puntulina, the sister restaurant of the same family, for astounding views, more delicious food, and exceptional service.
- The Melegran - Rovinj
The Melegran - Four visits Some days, it just gets so hot in Rovinj that you want to sit in a cocktail bar with air conditioning while still enjoying the charming views. This small bar in the Melegran Hotel is the perfect place. The attention to detail in making a gin and tonic is divine. Tom, the bartender, can give you lots of local tips on where to eat or drink.
